Details on Star Wars: Episode VII’s Gwendoline Christie? Plus more…

Elle Style Awards 2014 - Red Carpet Arrivals

We have received yet another email from one of our friends who wanted to point us in the direction of some information they had come across. Keep in mind it does come from IMDb and we all know how to treat that kind of information.

We are only pointing in the direction of information. These are rumors and they could be false.

Could be incorrect but this sounds like it backs up something I was told by someone working on the film.
They said Stormtroopers play a major role, the empire still very much exists and that Gwendoline Christie
plays a rogue stormtrooper who wears silver armour.

To be fair, the person who told me this stuff is involved in costume/makeup etc. They’re knowledge regarding the story or the exact situation of the Empire could be a little sketchy, although I was also told that Han and Leia are divorced (or separated… something along these lines)so they must know roughly what’s going on plot wise.

Again, this could be incorrect but I don’t see why it would be.

These were snippets out of what we received and from what we have been hearing elsewhere about Gwendoline Christie’s character somewhat matches up. But only generalities, nothing of extreme detail to make us supremely confident about it. The second half was a bit that we actually haven’t heard yet but though it was interesting so we included it.

We will leave you cats to decide how you feel about the information. We are only passing it along.

Personally, I think it would be great to have a twist like that in Han and Leia’s relationship. It would be unexpected, at the very least.

    • Bifash

Maybe Leia is married to Lando now…

      • Indiana Blotto’s Last Crusade

Nope. Leia cheated on Han with Chewie.

“He knows what he did ……. She was my wife….. you Wookiee sack of $#!t…”

(From Harrison Ford’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last year.)

  • John Caliber

I’d say it was more expected – A classic relationship break-up trope drives more drama than having both happily married and firmly gone to seed, which made their EU personifications so dull. Also fits another classic plot-device – new characters seeking out older heroes – former friends from past battles – but now scattered across the galaxy, trying to reunite them or learn from thir wisdom.

Vader and Palpatine are dead the empire is history

    • Keith Johnson

Maybe not so. Remember that in Episode IV Tarkin stated that “the regional governors now have direct control over their territories” after Palpatine dissolved the Senate. It stands to reason that some of them might try to set up their own private fiefdoms and/or ally with other Imperial governors in some sort of coalition after the death of Vader and Palpatine.

  • Keith Johnson

It makes sense that someone of Gwendoline’s stature and build should play a soldier of some sort. Whether it’s true, of course remains to be seen.

    “They’re??”

I’d say the more likely split is between diplomat-trained/politically-powerful Leia, and semi-abused-farmboy/Force-powerful Luke, with Han & Leia watching their kid(s) take sides, as Luke’s growing frustration leads to the Dark Side. Meanwhile Han, comparatively powerless (or is he?), looks on in pain and frustration.

  • Fred

I don’t have an opinion one way or the other about Han and Leia’s relationship status but I hope Gwendoline Christie isn’t playing a stormtrooper, rogue or otherwise…

  • Mario Antonio

No, based on Gwen’s stature, beauty, body frame, I have a feeling she’ll be playing a more complicated character that will have an impact and will be vital for EPVll. Based on her attributes, if she’s donning silver storm trooper gear, my gut feeling says she will play a character that was part of a recruitment camp stationed on coruscant under the Empires days. I believe this character was some kind of sith alcolyte chosen by Sidious, recommended by Vader to train. So if I’am right, she will play a character called “Lumiya” Lady of the Sith. Take this with a grain of salt, I’m not sure but Gwen would be perfect for this role.

    • Keith Johnson

Let go of the EU already, it’s not going to be part of the new movies. There have been two official pronouncements saying so. To quote Yoda in ESB, “You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Agree with others on here… Han and Leia are best when they are snarking at each other… and the person who wrote that snappy dialogue best is the man writing this film.

  • Andrew Ippolito

That Han and Leia are divorced actually goes along with Harrison Ford’s funny in-character bit with Chewbacca on the Jimmy Kimmel show a few months back – http://screencrush.com/harrison-ford-star-wars-jimmy-kimmel/

  • Indiana Blotto’s Last Crusade

Silver armor. Could be a Mandalorian instead of a Stormtrooper.

  • Meirsch.

Sounds like she’s been cast as a Cylon.

Hey Gwendoline, aren’t you a little tall for a stormtrooper?
