Our bud Germaine over at /FILM has pointed us in the direction of this Deadline article about Daisy Ridley getting with a new management company:

She is the female lead in the J.J Abrams-directed resuscitation of Star Wars, and the plan is for her carry through to the second and third films that will be directed by Looper helmer Rian Johnson.

I have wondered about Boyega’s character’s fate in the next films. When Ridley finely finds Luke Skywalker, it doesn’t appear Boyega’s character is in the mix. It doesn’t mean anything at all, let me stress that. But it did cause my speculative mind to wonder if he dies in the film and she’s forced to go on by herself and finish their quest, the hero alone.

The “resuscitation of Star Wars” is kind of a questionable phrase to use. The last trilogy made a boatload of cash, the television series did great, it was still the number boy’s toy every year. What is being resuscitated here? Film blogs being able to cover it again?

The Rian Johnson comment is true. He is the new director. It is literally the worst kept secret out there. But hot damn if it is not exciting. I’m confident in Abrams and what he’ll do with Star Wars: Episode VII, but I’m excited and jazzed for Rian Johnson to bring Star Wars: Episode VIII to life.

Like I always say at the end of these articles, it’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan.
