Rick Heinrichs to be production designer on Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII!

Our buddy Dion of Star Wars Always points us towards this Variety article which names Star Wars: Episode VIII’s production designer:

Sandra Marsh & Assoc. has booked production designers Rick Heinrichs (above left, “Captain America: The First Avenger”) on Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” and Carol Spier (above right, “Pacific Rim”) on Hulu’s “11/22/63”; and cinematographer George Steel (“The Honorable Woman”) on BBC miniseries “War and Peace.”

That’s right, the man that brought us The Big Lebowski’s production design will be the production designer on the third new Star Wars film coming our way. I’m happy with the way things are shaping up for the sequel trilogy’s second installment. Rian Johnson still remains officially unofficial, but its happening. That said, I would not imagine Rick Heinrichs will be announced officially in any capacity until the official site makes an announcement similar to the master filmmaker team they put out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
