In an article about how ESPN could be sold one day, Bob Iger dropped this quote about seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens:
“I’ve seen the film without most of its special effects and without most of its music,” Iger said. “I can’t wait for the world to see it.”
“We’re making standalone films which we’ve announced, two,” he said—referring to a project exploring the backstory of a young Han Solo and “Star Wars: Rogue One” involving a heist surrounding Death Star plans.
Now, we get it–Iger owns the movie, basically. He’s not going to say it sucks. However, at this juncture, he also doesn’t have to comment on a work in progress. If Iger is saying that, I would take it as a very positive sign that Disney is very happy with director J.J. Abrams’ work (no surprise there). It sounds like we’re going to get a very cool Star Wars movie.
This quote comes on the heels of lots of rumors of investor screenings on the horizon. When I asked how much I would need to invest to see it at one of those screenings, I was told it was all the money my whole family has ever made times ten.
Positive news is positive news!
