Today, I was out with the kids and EW ran a piece stating Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be filming in Skellig Michael, not Star Wars: Episode VIII. I got the message, was slightly confused and a little bummed. When I sat down to write the corrective piece, EW updated once again with this text:
CORRECTION: Lucasfilm says reports that Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be regrouping for reshoots in Ireland this month are erroneous and that the actual plan is to begin shooting sequences from director Rian Johnson’s 2017 sequel Episode VIII.
This lines up with our sources, friends in the area, and what other sites have been saying since the start of Summer. Our buddy David Green and other sources told us back in late June:
Once Rian Johnson came on board for VIII and the story developed it was required they shoot there again and this time, bad weather was preferred. Shooting at Skellig Michael for Star Wars: Episode VIII appears to be slated for this October.
Thanks to EW we finally got official confirmation that Star Wars: Episode VIII will film at Skellig Michael.
