Tim Rose discusses playing Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Tim Rose is performing as Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During the summer of The Force Awakens filming, Rose canceled convention appearances which was a solid tipoff that the rumors were true–Admiral Ackbar was returning. Since then, the SDCC video J.J. Abrams brought with him officially confirmed Admiral Ackbar was back for sure..

Tim Rose briefly discusses the difficulties of working on the secretive film with The Australian:

“Out of the need to be secret, we’re not actually able to get everything we need to do our jobs as well as we could,” he said.”And as someone who has been doing it for 35 years, I find it very frustrating.”

However, Tim Rose doesn’t only express frustration:

“What I can say about the new movie is that if you were a fan of the original three, you’re going to absolutely love this one to bits,” Rose said. And if Rose’s very veiled hints are anything to go by, there will be more original players returning to the franchise.”You can expect a smorgasbord of people you love,” he said.

We’ve come a long way since Jedi News and MSW commented on the Admiral returning and then discussed descriptions of his new costume. I think it is very fun that they brought the classic puppet back and got the original person that brought him to life to resurrect the fish-man once again.

Other classic performers from the original trilogy like Phil Tippet have also returned to help bring The Force Awakens’ creatures to life. The rumor around Tippet’s involvement, at least in part, revolves around animating the chessboard aboard the Falcon.

I still can’t help but get excited that Admiral Ackbar is going to be in another Star Wars film. That’s nuts. After the movie comes out those types of feelings will fade away. But for now, it is damn exciting to see that face back on screen and I’m looking forward to his second appearance in a Star Wars film.
