Tony Dyson, R2-D2 Original Builder, Has Passed Away

By  |

The BBC alerts us to a very sad story today. Tony Dyson, who was commissioned to build eight R2-D2 units for Star Wars: A New Hope, has passed away. We would like to wish our thoughts and prayers to Tony’s family during this time. BBC goes on to say some really cool facts about Tony and his time working on Star Wars:

“He made four remote control units – two units for the actor Kenny Baker to sit in with a seat fitted inside and two throw away units to be used in a bog scene in Empire Strikes Back where a monster spits out the droid onto dry land, from the middle of the swamp.”

Tony in my eyes is for sure one of the great Star Wars legends. Rest in peace Tony.
