Alden Ehrenreich is happy about Donald Glover casting and a younger Chewbacca

Variety spoke with Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich at the Rules Don’t Apply premiere this week and he was pretty tight-lipped about the upcoming Star Wars Story. Ehrenreich did express his approval of Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and gave us a little on Chewbacca.

“I think he’s going to be great in the role because he’s such a talented and interesting guy. And I can say that Chewbacca’s in the film, although I know that’s not a huge spoiler.”

So will fans see a younger Chewbacca? A shorter Chewbacca?

“He’s as much younger as I am in the film,” he joked. “So, I think he’s like 190 — or something — years old. I don’t think there’s a huge growth spurt for him from 190 to 210, so he’s probably about the same height.”

It’s unclear if Solo’s sidekick will be played once again by Peter Mayhew, who portrayed the Wookiee warrior in Episodes III-VII.

I think it’s very unlikely that Peter Mayhew will play Chewbacca in the upcoming Han Solo film. He may be on set to perform some Millennium Falcon scenes or other mellow moments, but in all likelihood another actor will be in the suit for most of the action, similar to The Force Awakens.

We’re all very excited to see Han Solo and Chewbacca together on another adventure, especially since Han’s absence will be felt during Episode VIII.
