Lucasfilm has no plans for CGI General Leia

Starwars.com just released a statement regarding the recent rumors of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia CGI recreation for Star Wars: Episode IX.

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.”

I, for one, am very glad that this is the case. I feel that General Leia should not be brought into the films if she is just going to be recreated in CGI, especially since Carrie’s death was so recent. I also wouldn’t want to see General Leia ever recast. What that means for the character is up in the air, but I would think it will be explained in Episode IX, or even Episode VIII. Rumors have been circulating that Fisher had a larger role in IX, which now will entail a big rewrite of the script. How do you feel about this decision?
