General Leia Organa will appear in Star Wars: Episode IX without the aid of CGI
New York Daily News is reporting that General Organa (as portrayed by Carrie Fisher) will appear in 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX, according to her brother Todd Fisher.
Fisher spoke to New York Daily News about his sister Carrie Fisher possibly appearing in the third film of the current sequel trilogy, and says Disney approached him and Fisher’s daughter Billie Lorde about using already filmed footage of Fisher to place her in the film. No CGI will be used to recreate Carrie Fisher.
“Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t,” said Fisher, as he attended the opening night gala of the TCM Film Festival in Los Angeles, celebrating “In the Heat of the Night.”
“She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.”
Fisher did not have any idea how they will include General Organa in Episode IX, but said that he has full faith in the filmmakers to do it correctly.
Carrie Fisher filmed Star Wars: The Last Jedi last summer and now with a little movie magic and clever editing, her legacy will continue on into Episode IX. I’m happy.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiers December 15th, 2017.
