Star Wars Celebration Battlefront II panel details
The Star Wars Battlefront II panel at Star Wars Celebration just ended, and they are going all-in for this game. The panel featured representatives from Dice, Motive, and Criterion, as well as special guests Steve Blank from the Lucasfilm story group and author Christie Golden. As you may have guessed, these appearances revealed that the game’s all-new story mode will be canon. In addition, Golden, who wrote Dark Disciple, will be penning the new novel Star Wars Battlefront II: Inferno Squad, slated for release this July. Now, let’s get into what information was revealed at the panel.
All-New Campaign Mode
This is going to be quite the experience for Star Wars gamers. This single player story mode will feature the story of Iden Versio, leader of Inferno Squad, which is the special forces unit of the Empire. In this story mode, the player will encounter well-known characters and planets, as well as some new locations. The best part? This canon story begins with the explosion of the second Death Star and takes place over the course of 30 years, leading into Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In fact, they stated at the panel that you will be able to play as Luke, Kylo Ren, and maybe more in the chapters of the campaign. When they were developing the idea of this story, they wanted to approach the Star Wars story in a new way. We know the heroes of the Rebellion and the victory at the Battle of Endor, but what about the heroes of the Empire? What if the Battle of Endor was the biggest defeat of your war? We will be able to explore this in the story. The trailer also features the voice of what appears to be Sam Witwer’s Emperor Palpatine.
If you were a fan of the first Battlefront game and its multiplayer nature, you are going to be pretty excited about what they have to offer with this game. The new multiplayer experience takes place across all eras of Star Wars, ranging from the prequels all the way through Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This includes battle droids, clones, Rebel soldiers, First Order Stormtroopers, and more. The locations range from Kamino to Starkiller Base. Plus, if you pre-order the game, you can receive exclusive items like the costume for Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi, unmasked and caped.
The games will include up to 40 players and will feature class-based gameplay. Whether you fight on land or in space (yes, space fighting included), it’s guaranteed to be as visually stunning as the first game, if not more so. Plus, the heroes of the game can be upgraded and are not pickups on the map. In fact, many elements of the game can be upgraded with your classes. The idea behind this is that a squad of well-organized soldiers has a chance to take down even Darth Maul.
That’s right: Battlefront II will include a local split-screen mode to enjoy the game. It will not be without merit, as you can earn rewards and customize your characters from this gameplay. If you missed this element from the first game, EA and its affiliates working on this have been listening.
Check out the official website for updates on the game that is set for release on November 17 of this year. There will be opportunities to play the game early that will be detailed at a later time, with E3 being a heavily rumored opportunity. I certainly know I will be sinking some significant hours into this game when it’s released, and I can’t wait for more. Check out the trailer below!
