Howard to Direct Untitled Han Solo Film

Veteran director replaces Lord & Miller on Star Wars standalone

MSW recently reported that Lucasfilm fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the upcoming young Han Solo movie. Today (June 22), The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Academy Award-winner Ron Howard will settle into the director’s chair for the Star Wars standalone film. Previously, Howard directed the DaVinci Code trilogy, Apollo 13, and A Beautiful Mind.

From The Hollywood Reporter

“Ron Howard has been named as the new director of Lucasfilm and Disney’s untitled Han Solo movie, sources tell to The Hollywood Reporter exclusively.”

Personally, I don’t mind the choice and look forward to seeing how Howard brings Solo to life. However, I believe all these changes may also push the film back to a December 2018 release. Only time will tell… Corey

UPDATE: Lucasfilm Press Release (Kathleen Kennedy)

“We believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago…with that in mind [Lucasfilm announces] that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”
