UPDATED – Set Views: Howard Teases Solo Standalone

#UntitledHanSoloMovie posts have become a staple

Updated: August 18, 12:43 PM ET

Prior to the hiring of Ron Howard, social media posts from the set of the untitled Han Solo standalone film were few and far between. This photo, captioned “Han First Shot” was posted by Chris Miller on Twitter on January 30, 2017.

After the shake-up on the set of the as of yet untitled Han Solo standalone film, Star Wars fans got pretty nervous (albeit justifiably).

Given the unusual circumstances and timing of the firing of Chris Miller and Phil Lord, at first even the hiring of someone with the skill set like Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard failed to ease many nerves.

However, Howard’s vast knowledge base also includes a working understanding of social media, and the use of the camera on his smartphone accounts for some of the most significant images captured since the events in June.

“The right approach…”

“The right approach…”

Posts including “#UntitledHanSoloFilm” became normal in the past few weeks, a noted contrast between previous Star Wars production crews and Howard’s.

The contrast (and perhaps the purposeful nature of the change) was not lost on the community.

“I love what Ron Howard is doing with his Twitter feed,” said Ken Napzok on the August 1 ForceCenter podcast. “It’s the right approach.

“It serves the whole drama well,” he continued, after his co-hosts Jennifer Landa and Joseph Scrimshaw concurred. “He’s like, ‘I’m having fun here. I’m happy to be here…’ And I think it’s creating this fun atmosphere.

“It really makes me feel better about what’s going on,” he said.

Ken is not alone, and per usual speaks for many in fandom. Most seekers of the saga can’t get enough of the social media from the set–and neither can we.

So here is a social media timeline from the folks at the #UntitledHanSoloMovie.

Lord and Miller were fired on or about June 20, 2017. The official Star Wars Instagram account posted this cast and crew pic on February 21.

This is by no means meant to be a comprehensive article. LOTS of stuff has hit Social Media since Ron Howard took over the Han Solo standalone. Rather, the below is meant to acknowledge the difference between Howard’s approach and the kind of tight-lipped tack that most movie sets adhere to…

Howard began by capturing his trip to the UK.

Then he drew fans in with a tongue in cheek pic from the set.

Howard took us for a walk.

One from the road to Pinewood Studios.

Another from the editing room.

And then, some pretty significant photos from a closet.

#UntitledHanSoloMovie Care to guess whose closet this is?

Chewie (and his family?) became a fixture.

A selfie of the director had fans asking, “Hello, what have we here?”

Hyperspace became real for Howard.

There was a Willow reunion.

Wicket replied a few weeks later, BTW.

RH teased a set, too.

That day, he also embraced some of the jokes that had been written about his arrival on set.

A strange new alien turned up in a working-pic of the crew.

Clarke celebrated her 10-million Instagram followers with Chewie.

Captain Marvel captured the crew.

Howard talks about Bradford Young…

And then some droids hit Howard’s feed.

Confirming Clint…

Howard figures it out with figures.

Star Wars cuisine…

Remember, don’t eat the prop food! Very tempting, but what is it? #UntitledHanSoloMovie

As of 12:43 PM here on the East Coast of the United States, it’s been nearly 22-hours since Ron Howard last tweeted (about StarWars). But we all wait in anticipation for another look at the #UnitledHanSoloMovie — hopefully very soon. Until then, you can be the judge of Howard’s acting chops…

oh no! sneak attack!
