THR is reporting we might have a Star Wars Rebels cast!
THR/HeatVision has learned that David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum are in the process of being cast as the voice leads for the series, which will make its debut in fall 2014.
We don’t have any casting announcements at the time but are excited about the series and look forward to sharing news with you in the future.
Does this mean Oyelowo is in Star Wars Episode VII too and this character transcends both eras? This speaks well for Latino Review’s story from last weekend about Oyelowo trying out for Episode VII. After writing that sentence, our friends at JediNews dropped this bomb:
And no, it’s not Sherlock…
The actor is BBC Spook’s star David Oyelowo who is due to be in Jurassic World. He was also in Red Tails, so is a Lucasfilm alumni and was recently in Lincoln for Kathleen Kennedy. REALLY, REALLY good actor and a brilliant choice. Hope he has a great role.
I am being told that not only will he be in Episode 7 but the plan is for him to also be in Rebels playing a character that sets up his Episode VII character! All part of the major EpVII co-ordinated push being pulled together by Simon Kinberg and the first major sign that Rebels will be the vehicle to setup the masses for EpVII fever!!
Oyelowo is 37 years old. That means he would be in his early sixties in Episode VII. He must play an alien if this news is accurate. If he’s human, something weird must happen to him unless he’s really young in the series. Rebels is somewhere in the twenty years before Episode IV. But Episode VII takes place someplace around 30 years after Episode VI. The wording from JediNews about his character also sounds like he might be playing two separate characters which are related or involved some how. Perhaps he’s voicing himself at 18 and Rebels takes place right before Episode IV? He could play himself at 18 years old and then play either of these character in VII with some ammending:
– Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.
– Forty something male, fit, military type.
Freddie Prinze Jr and voice work makes sense to me. I’ve heard he’s a huge Star Wars fan. He seems to pursue his interests in random more than working as an actor for artistic respect. I give him credit for doing WWE. It isn’t my thing, but I thought that was cool of him.
Vanessa Marshall was on Young Justice. That makes sense since Greg Wiseman spearheaded that show.
It is interesting to see things moving forward.
But as always, as good as THR is, until Lucasfilm says so it is not official. When it is official, StarWars.com will let us know.
