Did you know: With an AppleTV & an iPad you can watch all the Rinzler “Making of Star Wars” content on your television!
I decided to make this short guide to either inform or show people how to watch all the wonderful enhanced content from J. W. Rinzler’s The Making of Star Wars, The Making of The Empire Strikes Back, and The Making of Return of the Jedi. Recently, digital versions of all of Rinzler’s “Making of” series came out at a greatly reduced price compared to the hardbacks and coolest of all, they contained nearly an hour of audio and video on each release.
A common criticism I have heard from those I’m discussing the enhanced books with is “that’s cool, but it is dumb that wasn’t on the Blu-ray. I don’t want to watch three hours of video on my iPad, put that stuff on DVD/Blu-ray.” I am forced to inform them they can watch the content on their televisions. Now I now you’re reading this guide because you already knew how to do this and you’re up on the up and up, but this is for the people that had no idea. I have to confess, I was one of those people until I played with the book for a few hours on the day all three came out.
In order to watch the enhanced content on a television, you must have have an iPad, an AppleTV, and the Kindle app with a copy of The Making of Star Wars, Empire, or Jedi on it.
Prerequisite: Make sure your AppleTV and your iPad are on the same network and both are connected.
Step 2: toggle the switch in the bottom right hand corner from iPad to AppleTV, AppleTV should then have a check mark.
It is pretty simple, but it also isn’t something everyone knows is possible. I created a short two minute video demo:
