The Boba rumor is picking up some revitalized momentum. Director Jon Schnepp of Metalocalypse claims Lawrence Kasdan is supposedly working on the Boba Fett spin-off film. At least that’s what has been reported in an interview with AMC Movie Talk:
Schnepp states the first spin-off film is Boba Fett and then reiterates:
It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.
I hope this is true. I want it to be true. But the information/rumor is not new at all. In fact, it has been around for over a year and has been reiterated as fact so often, it is almost in the realm of accepted truth. If Jon Schnepp heard it from someone well placed, that’s one thing. He is in the industry and all that jazz. But if it was a person in the rumor scene, or someone trusted that just trusts the commonsense of something being said often must be true, it could just be more of the same old stuff.
If you’re wondering, I believe the rumor is true. But we still haven’t had an announcement pertaining to this film even officially happening, or the Han Solo film for that matter.
I wrote this piece about the idea that Kasdan might direct a Han Solo spin-off, but now it looks like he’s doing the Boba story if this rumor is correct. It still makes sense. I also believe, based on the Rasulo‘s comments, that there will most likely be an attempt to have the spin-off films talk to one another and culminate in an Avengers style large film (that will probably make as much as the Skywalker Saga films in the end thanks to the co-operation of several films working together).
I still kind of wonder if Kasdan is directing it. He’s been directing for years and I wonder if that was the bait to get him to return to writing Star Wars. He barely returned to write Return of the Jedi originally because he was beyond it. It seems like a director will come aboard soon for the first spin-off if it is to hit in 2016 still.
