Star Wars is still following the Marvel Model

THR reported Disney CFO, Ray Rasulo has commented on the future of their brands and confirmed Star Wars is following the Marvel model (again):

We are doing what we do for our Disney franchises … with Star Wars, and it is mirroring Marvel, but we already know the path, so it’s going to go faster, smoother, with the same goals,” Rasulo said.

This isn’t exactly new news. But it is more confirmation that the future is still going to be along those lines.  He also confirms they’re making bucket loads of cash.

This is meaningful because we’ve heard a lot of rumors that ancillary characters from comics could potentially move on to the cartoons and then to Netflix mini-series and then onto the screen in feature films if they work well enough. Those pathways are open to characters that aren’t necessarily household names which is encouraging. The future looks good for characters beyond the main ones over time. It does appear the immediate future will only feature classic characters in films, but over time, that will likely change as we enter into different “phases.”

Thanks to Alex for the heads up.
