Sections of the first Star Wars Anthology film “Rogue One” to film in 6K!

The rapscallions at Rebels Report have alerted us to a Hollywood Reporter story stating:

Parts of Star Wars: Rogue One and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation were shot with Arri’s Alexa 65, a large format, 6K resolution model of Arri’s popular Alexa camera that is available exclusively through Arri Rental.

It sounds like Gareth Edwards will be picking up where George Lucas left off, technologically speaking. He appears to be embracing the digital revolution instead of using film stocks meant to mimic the original trilogy’s. That said, to the extent the film will use the new Alexa 65 isn’t really that clear. Still, I find it exciting.

The story makes it seem as if Rogue One has already filmed, but I’m pretty sure they’re just speaking of Rogue Nation.

Future Avengers films will also be filmed on the format for IMAX.
