The cats over at schmoesknow have heard an interesting reiteration of a Star Wars Anthology film rumor:
Let’s classify this as a rumor to start as things are in motion quite a bit. But over and over again, my source is hearing the same thing: Han Solo and Boba Fett will be the focus of the second Star Wars Anthology film set for release in 2018.
A while ago, while having dinner with a few friends that worked on a very recent Star Wars film, I talked about the Han Solo spin-off idea and the Boba Fett film as if it was a given. (It seemed to be a forgone conclusion at that time it was the next spin-off film.) Then my friend Germain at /FILM started hearing otherwise, and with a little investigation, I came to similar threads and leads. I was pretty confused.
To me it appears there was some truth the Boba Fett/Han Solo film stories. Of all the things to not shoot down, that one never was shot down for me that night (a lot of things got shot down for me that night). I have to assume the plan was a little different out of the gate when Disney bought Lucasfilm; Rogue One was the film that was ready to go first and took the lead spot.
When I reached out to a very solid source to ask if this was report was accurate, I was simple told “nothing has changed.” So I’m not exactly backing up the report, but there’s not a lot disproving it either.
The part I like is:
My source is saying that both Jon Faverau and Matthew Vaughn have been thought to be circling the project.
Jon Faverau, the voice of Pre Vizsla in The Clone Wars and director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, would probably make a pretty solid Star Wars film. I like some of Vaughn’s films and others not so much, but I would have fun watching an offering from either director, honestly. However, it does kind of run in the face of the idea Lucasfilm has said they were all about for these which was getting young up-and-coming directors and letting them make Star Wars. There’s a chance that was just said because that’s what they had and after the lost Josh Trank things changed for whatever reason? Or maybe that’s just not really accurate.
I’m dying to know what the next Star Wars Anthology film is going to be after Rogue One. Hopefully D23 shines some light on that for us!
