A rumor about Rey’s past in Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Potential Spoilers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens after the jump.

On the newest episode of “Now, This is Podcasting!” an interesting rumor is brought up by Randy about Rey and her history:

  • “Rey” is a pseudonym used by the hero in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • “Rey” was dropped off on Jakku by her parents.
  • “Rey” doesn’t leave Jakku because she’s waiting for her parents to return. Should she leave, they may never find her.
  • Her life on Jakku, living inside an AT-AT-turned-home, makes Luke’s life on Tatooine look suburban and luxurious.

This rumor–if accurate–doesn’t spell out anything in terms of parentage. For me, it still makes it seem like she’s not a Solo or a Skywalker based on that information. For her parents to leave her there and never return either means she has very bad parents, they died, or leaving her there is better for her for some secretive reason.

When Randy spoke of this on the podcast, the first thing that came to mind was “Kira!” If you recall there was every indication “Rey” was to have the name “Kira” in the film. Then the EW piece went out announcing her name was “Rey.”

Remember this is all rumors and should be treated as such (that we think are likely accurate).
