Debunked: Are there Ewoks in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

UPDATE: I was in contact with Christopher Ang’s representation and asked if he filmed anything for Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

He did not. And we don’t know why it is on there.

The initial report:

Lets not get too excited about this one yet. We should put it under rumor for now. There’s a lot of red flags going against the likelihood this will pan out exactly as it appears. Christopher Ang, an actor, has an interesting listing on his IMDb Pro Page and his standard page:

Screen Shot 2015-09-13 at 2.38.19 PM

The information would suggest that Ang is playing an Ewok with a green cowl. The color designation infers there is more than one.

The most puzzling is that Ang is not a little person. Ang is 6ft, 180lbs. That isn’t who generally perform as Ewoks classically. If this listing has any legitimacy, perhaps Ang is puppeteering an Ewok? Ang has been as much of a stunt performer as an actor. Many puppeteering styles like the ones used for Nien Numb in Return of the Jedi required a lot physically intense work for the puppeteer as they had to lay on their back with their arms extended into the air for hours. Perhaps a stunt performer with acting skills was chosen to operate a green-cowled Ewok for this reason? It might be of note that Ang was in Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla and the Lawrence Kasdan film Dreamcatcher.

The other questionable part is that Ang is represented in Canada and we didn’t see (to the best of our knowledge) too many Canadians over at Pinewood in the UK (although it does say his mother is British, which is at least a connection). We reached out to his representation to see if we can get a response about the listing and are still waiting for confirmation or denial regarding the listing.

Further questions are produced when browsing Ang’s personal Twitter account. There doesn’t appear to be any indication from the Twitter that Ang was anywhere near The Force Awakens production.

The actual phone we use to confirm Ewok casting in all present Star Wars films.

Maybe Star Wars: The Force Awakens has the galaxy’s first giant Ewoks? Maybe Ang is a puppeteer on the new movie? Perhaps after Kylo and his crew go back to Endor to retrieve that burned up Darth Vader helmet, the Ewoks didn’t end up so safe and some fled to join the Resistance for some sweet Ewok revenge!? Or maybe the listing is a joke or erroneous? We will see!
