Benicio Del Toro Confirms Villain Role in Star Wars: Episode VIII and When Filming Begins!

Although nothing has yet been confirmed by Lucasfilm, we’ve heard before that Benicio Del Toro will be starring in the upcoming Rian Johnson-directed Star Wars: Episode VIII as its villain.

Del Toro spoke with and confirmed a few things about the next episode in the Star Wars saga:

“Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March.”

When asked about his role specifically, Del Toro had this to say:

“Ehhh, the thing is, they don’t let me talk too much about it. I’m like the villain. But we’ll see.”

It’s been noted that Del Toro seemed slightly unsure when speaking about being the villain of the film. Perhaps he’s not 100% sure about the scope of his role yet, or maybe he’s not portraying a main villain but rather a side antagonist. Until shooting starts in March we’ve got a long way to go to speculate on what his role will entail.

Thanks to /Film for the heads up.
