Three women up for roles in Star Wars: Episode VIII?

The Wrap is reporting three young actors are up for a lead role in Star Wars: Episode VIII to be directed by Rian Johnson:

Golden Globe winner  (“Jane the Virgin”), Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany(“Orphan Black”) and “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” star Olivia Cooke are considered the top contenders for the new female lead in Rian Johnson‘s “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” multiple individuals familiar with the casting situation told TheWrap.

They go on to stay that by the end of the month, these three women and perhaps more will do some screen-tests with John Boyega (who plays Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

We have heard rumors of a female villain being promised through marketing channels for Star Wars: Episode VIII. But it is hard to say how much validity that stuff has and if this is even relevant to those rumors.
