The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the world premiere for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for December 14th in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles premiere is sure to be one of the hottest tickets in recent Hollywood history, with executives, agents and journalists jockeying for a coveted invite. In addition, Disney is attempting to keep the film’s secrets under wraps, so there will be minimal screenings for press and cast and crew in advance of the premiere. While members of the cast of the J.J. Abrams-helmed film have appeared Comic-Con and Star Wars Celebration over the past year, the world premiere also is likely to be the first time that most or all of the cast will be seen together.
Apparently, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast and crew will then head to a London premiere followed by other international premieres.
It’s not clear at which theater the premiere will be held and no other details are yet available.
Of course fans know that A New Hope premiered in Mann’s Chinese Theater in 1977 (currently named TCL Chinese Theater). Others will likely know more about the logistical and political background, but absent other hurdles, having The Force Awakens premiere in the same theater where the magic began makes all the sense in the world. Particularly given the emphasis that J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm have put on linking this film with the Original Trilogy.
I’m currently waiting in line now… see you guys on December 14th!
