There is one month until Star Wars: The Force Awakens is officially released in theaters. How cool is that to say out loud? It seems like it has taken forever for this movie to come because every single day we obsess about it in fun ways. I’m sure there’s some guy that just tuned everything out and it felt like it got here fast. Not for me, but I’m ready for the avalanche of Star Wars.
I love the time right before a new Star Wars film. The excitement is in the air. All of the potential for something truly great is felt. Every time a new Star Wars movie hits, we feel that way because the first time we actually watched Star Wars we saw something unbelievable and without rival. The chances of anything matching that magic moment are really slim but the possibility exists. That’s one of those things that keeps us chasing that moment and I don’t think that’s bad. It drives the artists behind the picture to attempt to make something great and it has the audience believing that great art can and will be made. That’s the power of Star Wars as cinema. It inspires.
I am more convinced than ever that J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, Michael Arndt, and the teams at Lucasfilm and Bad Robot have delivered something VERY special. Star Wars comes in a lot of flavors and the flavor Abrams is bringing to us is the most popular kind and he’s done it really well if all of the tangible evidence, empirical evidence, and word of mouth is to be believed.
I do believe. I think in less than a month, J.J. Abrams is going to release the movie he will always be known for and it won’t be for better or worse, it will be for better. In about a month, I think we’re going to see a lot of people thanking Abrams for making a truly great Star Wars film that honors everything George Lucas brought to us all those years ago.
I hope you’re as excited as I am. We’re almost there!
