I was able to get with Lumberjack Nick this week and we were able to sketch out accurate representations of some of the character looks in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You will see Captain Phasma with her new staff that we mentioned recently. We were able to nail down exactly what the Executioner Stormtroopers and their weapons look like accurately as well. We have learned Captain Phasma appears with two executioners at times.
This week there was some discussion about what Kylo Ren actually looks like so we decided to tackle that too. The times I have seen Kylo from The Last Jedi the cape is certainly modeled after Darth Vader’s cape but it is still inconclusive if it is actually a cape Darth Vader wore or just a stylistic influence. Kylo Ren’s 2.0 mask (not shown) for The Last Jedi is different but the differences are so minor it was impossible to depict the changes based on my notes. For many the new helmet will not appear different at all. The 2.0 mask doesn’t have the same damage as the Star Wars: The Force Awakens counterpart and I think the rear of the helmet is slightly longer. The changes were so minor they’re barely notable but it is different nonetheless.
Here is our full body look of the Executioner Stormtrooper’s design. It should be noted that black stripe on the helmet runs down the entire length of the back of the helmet.
I feel like this closes out some old stories we reported and has them pretty accurate now. Thanks to Lumberjack Nick for going over my notes and much lesser sketches and bringing out the looks in a fun way. Everything I am seeing from The Last Jedi looks phenomenal. The designs pick up where the The Force Awakens left off but the movie appears to take us into some new areas we’ve never been before and I think that’s exciting. While this stuff here just updates things we have seen before, the rest of the film is very fresh and new.
Update: This turned up on Reddit from Star Wars: Battlefront.
I had a really good look at the cape from the film and I could see the material and the pattern is different than Darth Vader’s. I’m not sure if that rules out it is Darth Vader’s or just a stylistically similar choice by Kylo.
