Earlier this evening we reported on the shocking and brief statement from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy about the exit of directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord from the upcoming untitled Han Solo standalone film. Lord and Miller cited creative differences for the split.\r\nHan Solo Directors and Lucasfilm part on bad terms.\r\nNow, Variety is exclusively reporting that the directing duo, known for hits like 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, were fired after months of conflict on the set.\r\nA person with knowledge of the production said that the chemistry between the directors and Kennedy was never right.\r\n\r\n\u201cIt was a culture clash from day one,\u201d the source said. \u201cShe didn\u2019t even like the way they folded their socks.\u201d\r\nThe directing pair also apparently clashed with the film's writer, Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan.\r\nLike Kennedy, he questioned many of the pair\u2019s directing choices.\r\n\r\n\u201cKathy, her team and Larry Kasdan have been doing it their way for a very long time. They know how the cheese is made and that\u2019s how they want it made,\u201d said the source. \u201cIt became a very polarizing set.\u201d\r\nVariety is reporting that Lord and Miller did not exit voluntarily but were fired. The article also goes on to say some Hollywood insiders believe Kennedy is looking to hire "indie" directors but ultimately not give them creative control.\r\n\r\nThe film's release date has not been changed and several weeks of reshoots are still scheduled for later this summer. The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Ron Howard may be taking over completion of the film, which is due out in May of next year.\r\n\r\nA shortlist has emerged from sources close to the ordeal about who may be stepping up to take over directing duties.\r\nLucasfilm and owner Disney have already targeted their replacement, although the companies are keeping mum.\r\n\r\nRon Howard is one of the names that has emerged, according to sources, although some say that Kasdan, who has directed movies like\u00a0\u202aThe Big Chill\u00a0and Silverado,\u00a0could step in as he is already in prime position to know what needs to be fixed. Joe Johnston, who directed The Rocketeer and Jumanji, has also been mentioned as a possible candidate.\r\nAccording to a source much of the conflict with Lord and Miller was over the personality of Han Solo. It seems likely Lucasfilm is going to look to a director who is well versed in its idea of the character.
