Fisher, Hamill Officially Named Legends

Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill portray Leia and Luke in Star Wars: A New Hope

Despite the secrecy surrounding the weekend’s announcements, the biggest official Star Wars news of the Friday, July 14, was actually well known to fans prior to the event.

Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), the Saga’s star-crossed twins, became official Disney Legends.

Of Fisher, StarWars.com reported:

Carrie has been an iconic part of the Star Wars franchise from the very beginning, and she will always hold very special place in our hearts and in the hearts of fans around the world,” said Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger, who hosted the event. “We all miss her talent, her wit, and her friendship.

Iger also introduced Hamill saying, “Having seen his entire performance in The Last Jedi, I can tell you, it’s worth the wait.”

Of Hamill, StarWars.com reported:

I’ve been a Disney fan as long as I can remember,” he said, recalling his love of old Disney comic strips, as well as behind-the-scenes specials. “Disney provided me a tutorial of how I could make my dreams come true by lifting the curtain.

So Wizard! Pinball Post…

D23 Expo

Meanwhile, Star Wars news started to trickle in from everywhere – including Walmart (?).

MSW’s Corey reported Walmart.com listed a Star Wars: The Last Jedi pinball machine for pre-order.

“The goodies aren’t the machine itself, but the new images of Rey, Kylo, Luke, Praetorian Guards and more that are featured on the machine,” he wrote.

Official Unveiling of Star Wars Land Model

On Thursday evening, MSW reported on the press opening of the Star Wars Land model.

On Friday, everyone got to take a closer look at the preview, and, during the Disney Legends ceremony, Disney’s CEO spoke to the timing of the unveiling of the actual Disney Parks Experience.

Beyond the tweet above, Iside the Magic also posted a video tour of “Star Wars Land” which speaks to the immersive nature of the themed-experience.

Fans to travel to Galaxy’s Edge?

In a late-breaking story Friday evening, news came that a sharp-eyed shamus seems to have tracked down the official moniker for Disney’s Star Wars-themed park additions – a.k.a. Star Wars Land.

Slashfilm reported:

A few hours ago, an eagle-eyed Redditor noticed that the source code for a post on the official Disney Parks Blog seemed to reveal the official name of Star Wars Land as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Let’s look at the evidence… if you type “Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge” into Google, complete with the quotations around it to create a more specific search, the first result is the official Disney Parks website.

That report may be found here.

A decent video explanation (and synopsis of the day’s news) can be found on the DSNY Newscast.

Waiting for More News

As morning dawned on the East Coast, out West — in Anaheim specifically — MSW Editor in Chief Jason Ward waits in line for acces to today’s big event – the Walt Disney Studios Live Action presentation.

More from Twitter

Three other tweets caught our attention and spoke to some nice recognition for “The Star Wars Show” and Star Wars Rebels, Agent Kallus’ first name, and more hints from Dave Filoni about Season Four — the final season — of Rebels on Disney XD.

Stay tuned for more from D23 Expo on Saturday.
