D23 Expo: Settle in, Hit refresh & Watch the feeds

Managing Expectations of D23 Expo

Emailing with io9’s Germain Lussier last week, I asked him what Star Wars news he expected from this weekend’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

“I expect big things,” he said as an aside to a profile I’m preparing on the reporter. “I expect Last Jedi footage, I expect ‘Han Solo’ news (maybe an image or a title) and maybe even a 2020 announcement. We’ll see…

“If we get at least one of those things, I’ll be happy.”

Judging by his tweets last night, he’s already happy.

Then he exclaimed via tweet: “You guys, they are about to drop the curtain on the model for Star Wars land and I am FREAKING OUT. Photos very soon.”

And then came the photos (via io9). Wow. And then came video…

Wish we were there…

All of us would love to be there, and may of us will be watching feeds like Germain’s for each drop of Star Wars news possible.

But as happy as everyone is now, in the afterglow of the press’ sneak peek at “Star Wars land,” we all hope for just a few moments of excitement out of D23 Expo — live or experienced virtually — which will whet our appetite for December.

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Show teased the convention, and provided needed sizzle. But as of 8:15 AM (EST), the StarWars.com webite had only posted a picture of the “Star Wars Land” model, and a cryptic message.

Teasing? What? StarWars.com (8:15 AM EST)

The picture and sentence did not contain a link (?).

In the meantime, folks can satiate themselves by checking out the D23.com First Look at the “Star Wars Land” model.

However, all Star Wars fans are left to ponder another cryptic source.

Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi will be at D23. What will he be doing there?

“So certain are you?”

One thing is certain about Friday at D23 Expo, there will be some Star Wars news. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will officially become Disney Legends at a ceremony slated to begin at 10:00 AM (PST).

About the rest of the weekend… Only time will tell the quality and quantity of news and info. But as an avid watcher of both the Star Wars show and co-host Andi Gutierrez’s Twitter feed, I feel confident about the events to come.

“There’s going to be a ton of new Star Wars stuff revealed throughout the event,” said Gutierrez Wednesday on the Star Wars show, to which she added via Twitter on Thursday:

Let’s hope not. May the Force be with us…JB
