People Magazine published a brief profile on Star Wars newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Tran, who is the first Asian-American actress to play a major role in the Star Wars film saga, talked about how being cast in Star Wars has impacted her life:
“I just still can’t believe it’s all happening,” she says. “I keep having to remind myself that I’m in a movie. I’ll just go to LA Fitness and go to Ralph’s and go to the grocery store — and nobody knows who I am. Then I come to these events and I’m living this weird Hannah Montana life.”
It’s worth noting that this is also Tran’s first film role, as her previous acting credits were in TV. As fans of the franchise are well aware, being in Star Wars is its own animal, and we can only assume it’s a bit overwhelming for Tran to suddenly find herself not just a movie star, but a Star Wars star.
“I would tell myself just to be present and soak in every single moment,” she says of advice she would have given herself before landing the role. “It’s such a special experience that you just want to really experience every second of it.”
Given that Rose looks to be the most notable new character in The Last Jedi, I’m very eager to see what role she plays in the Resistance and how she fits in with Rey, Poe and of course, Finn. Head over to People.com to read the full profile!
