Around the Galaxy: Star Wars News 11.15.17

Mark Hamill, Disneyland, and Daisy highlight the headlines...

Always Full of Surprises

“You’ll find I’m full of surprises,” remains one of Luke Skywalker’s best-known lines in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

However, these days the quip could easily be applied to Skywalker’s alter ego–actor Mark Hamill.

People’s Alexia Fernandez explains:

The Star Wars actor, 66, shocked fans during the Star Tours ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on Tuesday. While park visitors were expecting a relatively normal experience, they got something much more. In a Twitter video shared by Star Wars, a Star Tours employee read from his script, but added a slight change, saying, “Actually, you know what, the captain did mention something about a special passenger.”

Mike Celestino, profiled by MSW earlier this year, picks up the story on Inside the Magic.

Tonight Hamill made a surprise appearance at Disneyland in Anaheim, California– greeting guests aboard the StarSpeeder 1000 ride vehicle inside Star Tours: The Adventures Continue in the park’s Tomorrowland area, and delivering an excited “May the Force be with you!” before settling down for his journey in the front and center of the famous attraction.”

ITM also provided a link to a video chronicling Hamill’s appearance:

Next Stop Crait: The Last Jedi Comes to Star Tours

Hamill’s appearance at Disneyland is just one piece of the media uptick for The Last Jedi, but the visit obviously owes something to the news that Star Tours at Anaheim’s Disneyland and Florida’s Hollywood Studios will debut content from The Last Jedi on Friday, November 17.

Disney and Star Wars Twitter gave a preview of what that ride might look like:

Earlier this month, Corey also wrote about plans to split up the original and prequel trilogies from the sequel trilogy on the beloved ride.

Daisy Ridley and Rey Differ on Porgs

Minor (possible) spoilers ahead…

USA Today’s Bryan Alexander caught up with Daisy Ridley, who is currently promoting her part in Murder on the Orient Express, and asked about porgs, Snoke, and Kylo.

Of the cuddly creatures, Ridley told Alexander that her own porg toy is “adorable” and “bringing a lot of pleasure right now.”

Meanwhile, Daisy confided that “Rey, honestly, is too wrapped up in her own journey to pay attention to porgs.”

As for the decidedly un-cuddly Kylo, Daisy was coy as to Ren and Rey’s relationship.

“These are two people who represent two very different sides of life, good and evil,” she told USA Today. “That’s going to be explored more in this.”

In the meantime, watch Daisy dodge her costar Judi Dench’s Star Wars questions (as prepared by Josh Gad).
