Designing “Force Skype” in Star Wars: How #Reylo Connected in The Last Jedi

Around the Galaxy: Star Wars News & Notes - Feb. 26, 2018

Star Wars

So, Star Wars fandom can expect some exciting moments in tonight’s two-episode set of Star Wars Rebels:

Melching is a writer on Star Wars Rebels, and obviously knows of which he speaks. So, this writer will be glued to a monitor around 9:00 p.m. tonight.

And, as such, I wanted to clean out the tractor beam, and compile a few of the more notable items I grabbed over the last couple of days.

How sound helped create the feel of “Force Skype”

They might be the most talked about moments (in a positive sense) of The Last Jedi – Rey and Kylo’s Force connection and conversations.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Carolyn Giardina spoke with supervising sound editor Ren Klyce about the film’s most memorable conversations:

We read the script and said, ‘OK, this is going to be interesting,’ and one of the first things that we asked Rian was how he wanted it to sound… It took a long time to arrive at that, but the first thing was that he wanted Rey and Kylo to feel like they were connecting over the vastness of the galaxy. It’s not just the internet. It is something spiritual; it’s the Force.

Those spiritual sequences re-launched the #reylo “ship,” which still maintains a hold on a vast number of fans.

Speaking of #Reylo (or, actually, not speaking of #Reylo)

The Tweet explains it all…

And, honestly, would you expect any less from Adam Driver? Hilarious.

While we’re on the subject…

There they are, at No. 19:

If you haven’t been subjected to most of the internet shipping Reylo by now, you must be living in a galaxy far, far away. I don’t care what the amateur Star Wars critics on the internet say because I swear there is always something gleaming in their eyes — and it isn’t undying hate for the other side. The supernova of Rebel scum getting into bed with the embodiment of Imperial evil would make Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala look positively PG-13.

Far be it from me to step on so many peoples’ wish, but I am going to go take a Pepto.

And yes, I saw the novelization leak posts…

But I have not yet perused and seen the materials myself — I need to do a little more reading — so, in the meantime I’m:

I may update again if something shakes loose, but otherwise, have a great day! JB
