Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits Digital HD and 4K Ultra HD and via Movies Anywhere tomorrow, March 13th.  One of the most anticipated special features attached to the home video is the documentary, The Director and the Jedi, chronicling director Rian Johnson’s journey developing and filming The Last Jedi.  The documentary premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW), and thanks to IMDB, you can watch the first 12 minutes now.

Those attending SXSW had the fortune to watch the premiere as well as attend a Q&A by the director himself, Rian Johnson.  Unsurprisingly, much of the response on social media seems to be very positive.

Below is a summary of the documentary courtesy of TOR.com:

An intimate documentary delving into Rian Johnson’s process as he comes in as a director new to the Star Wars universe. A fan since childhood, he sets out to make the most powerful Star Wars movie he can. Navigating the mammoth production, the scale of which he’s never directed before, we meet his cast and crew, see their individual challenges in bringing the film together, say goodbye to Carrie Fisher, and explore the significance of Rian’s more surprising decisions.

The documentary gives you a view of what it really was like to make The Last Jedi. As the team strive to do their best, what shines through is their passion and how memorable an experience it is for Rian as director.

Deleted scenes and commentary are always great, but I personally really get the most out of “making of” documentaries.  Especially given how much Johnson had to tackle for this The Last Jedi, I’m greatly looking forward to this documentary!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will arrive on Digital (in HD and 4K Ultra HD) and via Movies Anywhere on March 13, and on Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and On-Demand on March 27.
