Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi rocks the DVD/Blu-ray disc sales charts!

Variety is reporting that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is rocking the DVD/Blu-ray disc charts. The Last Jedi is not only one of the best Star Wars films of all time, it is being received as such as evidenced by the disc charts this week where Rian Johnson’s epic easily overcame other films released in the same window. I’m pretty sure we all own this already, especially if you read this new source, but if you need to pick it up, I recommend getting the 4K disc that includes the Blu-ray.

Variety says:

The Rian Johnson-directed film easily took the No. 1 spot on both the NPD VideoScan overall disc sales chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart.

The top ten of the list:
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (new)
2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
3. Coco
4. Justice League
5. Ferdinand
6. Thor: Ragnarok
7. Pitch Perfect 3
8. Wonder
9. The Star
10. The Shape of Water

I am really happy that this movie is connecting so well. While I’ve really loved all the new Star Wars films, this one dared to push the envelope and challenge the audience and the characters. As our first uniquely new flavor in the sequel trilogy, it has me more excited to see where the story goes than ever before. When the sequel trilogy was announced it felt like it had some difficult terrain to get past in order to get on with the new story and Rian Johnson took the story there effortlessly, boldly, and without any apparent anxiety about the choices it made. It doesn’t surprise me to see the film doing so well but sometimes the good guys don’t win and in this instance it makes me happy to see good art win out.
