Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Draws Quick Reactions

Around the Galaxy: Star Wars News & Notes - April 9

Obvious Solo: A Star Wars Story speculation and spoilers ahead.

I loved every second of the above trailer. And I am not alone.

MSW’s editor-in-chief posted his review last night:

We’re finally getting the vibe and feel of what that Solo movie we heard about back in October of 2012 is really going to be like when finally realized and I think that’s feeling is pretty rad.

The Monday morning news feed is full of fans geeking out about the new Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer.

And with good reason! As Anthony Breznican wrote last night:

Everything in the new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story is deliberately off, which seems to fit the tale of how one guy became a hero despite constantly doing the wrong thing… But Solo seems to relish its wrongness. To savor it. Solo even delivers a backwards twist on a familiar line: “I’ve got a really good feeling about this!”

That good feeling is prevalent in so many of our usual suspects.

Beyond Breznican, there’s Perri Nemiroff, who — after watching the trailer — exclaimed, “I dig it!”

Then there was Alex Damon (a.k.a. Star Wars Explained) who said, “Everything in the trailer just made me smile…”

And then, there’s Mr. Sunday Movies.

“I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been skeptical… that being said, I really like this trailer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Scott Mendelson — often cited in this space — remains nonplussed by the whole enterprise:

Sure, Solo: A Star Wars Story could be a train wreck, but that would surprise me. No, I don’t expect it to be my favorite Star Wars movie, but on paper, it looks like a pretty decent time at the multiplex. Six weeks out, I’ve got… a relatively indifferent feeling about this.

Heh. Very fair. And a very consistent stance from my favorite Hollywood business reporter.

Finally, there’s Mark Hamill, himself, who seems ready to jump aboard the Falcon for a ride…

…and this morning posted their top five highlights from the clip.

Let’s leave it there because I am sure there’ll be plenty more news and reaction coming! JB
