Is Lando Calrissian: A Star Wars Story on the horizon?

Update: Source of this quote Premiere.fr has updated their article after being contacted by Lucasfilm:

Update from 16/05 to 16:20: Following the publication of our article, Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy. “We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie …”

ComicBook.com is reporting that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has stated she thinks the Lando Calrissian film will be the next movie Lucasfilm begins working on. There were recently rumors that an Obi-Wan film is in pre-production at Pinewood Studios. If all of the outlets in this are correct, it would seem Kennedy is inferring that a Lando centric movie would be what is next to begin development, not the next movie to come out in the “A Star Wars Story” line of stand-alone spin-offs.

ComicBook.com shared this quote from Kennedy:

“We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian,” Kennedy said. “Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca but Lando will be next.”

I think Lucasfilm would be wise to generally move into this direction as Donald Glover’s Lando showed so much promise in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Glover is a star, a great artist, and the demand for a Lando film is going to arise after general audiences get to take in Solo: A Star Wars Story this month.

In my review for Solo: A Star Wars Story, I say as much:

The powers that be would be wise to head down to the Disney ATM and withdraw two hundred million dollars tonight to start making Lando’s film as soon as possible.

Hopefully in the next few hours or days as the promotion for Solo: A Star Wars Story moves forward Lucasfilm has the opportunity to clarify how far out this movie is or if that was even exactly what Kathleen Kennedy meant to say in the quote. I want it to be true because I could use more Lando and L3 on screen. Also, a Lando movie is another excuse to use Han and Chewbacca again too. If they make it, I’m all in.
