At a screening last night of Marvel’s hit Black Panther hosted by Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm confirmed to one of the attendees that a Boba Fett film is not currently a part of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars film plans.
One of the attendees of the Black Panther screening, Erick Weber, got to briefly speak with Kennedy about Boba Fett and he posted her response on Twitter last night.
Boba Fett was originally rumored to be part of his own Star Wars Story almost immediately after the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012 and at one point even had director Josh Trank connected to it. Rumors around the film have never really stopped since then, but with Kennedy so openly discussing it, it would seem the project is truly dead. Or at least put on hold for now, which lines up with Lucasfilm putting a hold on all it’s Star Wars Story projects for now which we heard back in June.
The positive part of Kennedy’s comment to Weber is that focus for now will be 100% on The Mandalorian which is really exciting to me as live-action Star Wars television is something I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time. We’ll continue to cover all the latest on The Mandalorian and hope that in some cool way, Boba Fett is incorporated into that project.
