Please do not share the details of this article openly on social media and spoil The Mandalorian for those that want to remain spoiler-free. These are very general spoilers but let’s respect other fans’ wishes and not spoil those that do not appreciate spoilers. What follows will be considered a spoiler to some so as always, be cool!
Today while doing the rounds, Pedro Pascal was confirmed to be the main character in The Mandalorian. That was great to hear and I was hoping that story was accurate. While Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed it, it does seem like most everyone is now onboard with that story from last month. It was pretty rad to see that come to fruition, at least partially (we still need that Lucasfilm confirmation). But it was hard to process that news again when I was looking at Death Troopers in person on the set of The Mandalorian. That’s right, the badass Stormtroopers from Rogue: One A Star Wars Story are still out there being a menace after the death of Emperor Palpatine.
The last few days at the location of Star Wars: The Mandalorian have been pretty cool to say the least. Today I witnessed what I think was the Mandalorian himself, in half a costume, coming out of the door pictured below. It didn’t look like Pedro Pascal so it was likely his stand-in. He appears to have some kind of skirmish with some Imperials. However, the coolest part is that based on what I observed, it appears we will see a Mandalorian fighting a Death Trooper like the one we saw in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. If you’re an armored character fan, that’s a dream fight right there.
This is not the first Death Trooper I have seen on the set of The Mandalorian in the last 24 hours. But I will say, there are times it can be slightly confusing if I’m looking at an Imperial Officer, an Imperial Grounds Crew member, or a Death Trooper if they aren’t totally geared up. I’m pretty sure the guy below is one of the Death Troopers and he also appears to be much taller than the Stormtroopers as his side.
Back in the day, we broke that these guys would be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But at that time they had green laser lights as features and they were expected to be integrated into the film. The green lights really ended up not having a great presence or use of that feature at all in Rogue One. A part of me hopes this series actually visually uses those green laser lights in some way. If they don’t get the opportunity in this series, I’ll hold my breath that the Cassian Andor series picks up on that thread.
Remnants of the Empire
It is really pretty rad to think that a lot of the coolest things from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are seeing new life in the aftermath of that film between the new series and Death Troopers existing in a post-Return of the Jedi environment and timeline.
So for what it is worth, we can confirm that empirically, that Death Troopers are in The Mandalorian and our hero will take them on. That makes me very intrigued and very excited to see the series even more than I already am. Up front, we freaked out just confirming Stormtroopers would be in this series but Death Troopers takes it up a level for me in the rad category.
