Back during the Star Wars: The Force Awakens days, I ninja’d in my first celebrity Stormtrooper story. I heard that Daniel Craig was in the film as a First Order Stormtrooper. I didn’t make a big deal of it. A while later on The Last Jedi I reported that Tom Hardy would be an ass slapping Stormtrooper after seeing people actually cared about the Daniel Craig stuff I let slide under the radar. Now, for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker I have three to report!
Today two sources expressed to me that English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran will be playing a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In addition to Ed Sheeran, English chef and restaurateur Jaime Oliver is also said to have a role as a Stormtrooper in the what is the same sequence as Sheeran. Their scenes appear to take place on the snow planet where they play standard white First Order Stormtroopers (instead of Snowtroopers which populate the area for the most part). In addition to what may seem obvious now that he hosted Star Wars: Celebration and discussed visiting the set, the same sources also said that Stephen Colbert plays a Stormtrooper as well.
2014: “I was reliably informed that there were loads of Stormtroopers on there a few weeks earlier (including Bond cast including Daniel Craig dressed in Stormtrooper outfits) and plenty of Star Wars machines.”
2016: “Tom Hardy plays a First Order Stormtrooper.”
2019: Ed Sheeran, Jaimie Oliver, and Stephen Colbert.
So there you have it, in the sequel trilogy Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Ed Sheeran, Jaime Oliver, and Stephen Colbert have all apparently played Stormtroopers. I love that we are able to have celebrity cameos in Star Wars films without it detracting from the film and breaking the immersion of the scenes thanks to the white masks of Imperial Stormtroopers.
