Michael Biehn has been cast in Star Wars: The Mandalorian’s second season!

John Connor's dad is on the bounty!

I hope you’re all staying healthy, practicing social distancing and being careful! Because today we have some really fun casting news. The excellent Michael Biehn is coming to the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian. If you recall back to my initial coverage for The Mandalorian, we locked down the codename used by the production which was “Huckleberry” which was a reference to Tombstone (1993). Biehn played Johnny Ringo in Tombstone. Even more iconic was his portrayal of John Connor’s father in Terminator (1984). As a kid in the eighties, I was also a big fan of his role in Aliens (1986) as Corporal Hicks.

Having the scoop on Pedro Pascal being cast in The Mandalorian was pretty rad for modern reasons like Game of Thrones and Narcos. However, my favorite scoop ever was Nick Nolte is playing an Ugnaught. But nearly equally rad was Carl Weathers’ inclusion to the cast because of the nostalgia I feel for the actor as such a huge part of my childhood. I really dig that The Mandalorian is adding Michael Biehn for the same reason.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni using actors from that particular generation of action hero is such a rad and creative way to cast this Star Wars series. While the series in no way feels like a throwback, there are times it feels like it is Star Wars after Return of the Jedi by bringing in some talent that the post-Return of the Jedi generation cherished when Star Wars went quiet in the eighties.

At the moment I cannot say a lot about Michael Biehn’s role in season 2 of The Mandalorian. The only thing I have at the moment is Biehn is playing a bounty bunter from The Mando’s past. It isn’t clear if it will play out like Bill Burr as Mayfield in the first season who was an old friend who became an adversary. I can also confirm that Bill Burr is back for the second season of The Mandalorian. Could he be apart of the old gang? Did he train Dyn Jarren?

With the news from last week that Ahsoka Tano is coming to the series and being played by Rosario Dawson, I’m elated to complement that news with such a rad action hero coming to the series as well. The Mandalorian’s next season is sounding really strong.

Stay healthy and stay away from people!
