Deadline has an update on some Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi news today. Indira Varma has been cast in an unknown part in the new Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Game of Thrones fans will be familiar with Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand who shared scenes with Pedro Pascal. She was also very excellent in Rome.
Varma’s character details are under wraps, as are plot details on the drama, which is based on McGregor’s prequel movie character. Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader.
The show is expected to take place between the final movie of George Lucas’s prequels, Revenge Of The Sith, and A New Hope.
Between Rome, Game of Thrones, and now Star Wars, Varma has had a really solid run of being involved with excellent cable shows. This is a good casting choice for a Star Wars show. You can check out her IMDb here.
It’s still weird to imagine new characters coming into this story. It totally makes sense. But for years we had to tuck Kenobi away on Tatooine knitting sweaters or something. Now we’re going to get new Kenobi in such an amount it might rival his actual Skywalker Saga screen time. If the series works, it should redefine to some extent.
It makes me ponder what kid of part Indira Varma will have in the story? I’m dying to learn what the premise of the show is and why it needed to exist. The production has shifted a lot since it was first conceptualized with a lot of ups and downs from the sound of things. But yet Lucasfilm has been determined to make sure this movie, now a show, happen. There was a rumor the early draft of a Kenobi film was the script they had ever written at the time. My expectations are high.
Hopefully we get some more Kenobi news soon!
