Much quicker than expected, by a month or two, the next Indiana Jones film is to begin rolling next week at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. Deadline is reporting filming is starting next week which is the best of news to this Indiana Jones fan. Unless Harrison crashes an airplane, has a Millennium Falcon door fall on him, we should be getting another Indiana Jones movie!
Hot take: I love Steven Spielberg. But I don’t think he’s that guy that made the Indiana Jones movie anymore. I think he knows how to make an Indiana Jones movie academically speaking. But for the most part, his popcorn stuff in the last decade isn’t that unique or as inspired as his biopic content. For that reason, I’m excited to see what someone like James Mangold can do in the director’s chair on this film. Will it be a movie like The Mummy or will it reach intensity of the Spielberg/Lucas era of these movies?
George Lucas was always an active producing consultant when you get down to it. Heck, he had his assistant do most of his research for the MacGuffins and he picked them out from there. I’m not saying he wasn’t vital but maybe not as necessary to the sequels as one might think. I think this movie has more of a chance than most cynical Hollywood types are going to give it credit for. At least Williams and Ford are back!
The meat of the Deadline report states:
Rumors have been swirling that filming is imminent on the currently untitled fifth installment in the beloved Lucasfilm (now Disney) franchise, and we hear cameras will roll from next week at Pinewood and at other locations in the UK.
Deadline also writes:
Plot details are being kept under wraps on the long-in-the-works film (rumors include a 1960s space race theme, but local reports in the UK also point to a shoot at Bamburgh castle).
Those two points do not have to contradict one another, if accurate. Look at Last Crusade, there’s a castle in that one and you would never be able to link that to the cup of Christ. I can’t wait to hear what the final MacGuffin for this movie is. Some of the things I heard about the Jon Kasdan script panned out, while other things did not. At this moment, I don’t know if anything from the Kasdan script is still being used or not.
Deadline also confirms more cast member:
- Harrison Ford
- Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One),
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars Story)
- Boyd Holbrook (Logan)
- Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident)
- Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Another Indiana Jones isn’t a bad thing. I mean if you loved the first three or four, you will always have those. After the last few years on Earth, lets take these wins and consider that by the time it cones out we will all be able to sit in a theater together and watch and Indy film.
Also if you were angry at the last Indy film because it had UFOs it in, well they’re real, making it the most realistic Indiana Jones film ever.
July 29, 2022!
