My sources on the new Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ have let me know that principal photography has finally finished. The limited series ran into a few snags with the pandemic but they got the job completed. It seems a lifetime ago the first tests for the series were underway during the filming of The Mandalorian down at the train yard lot where many exteriors are shot.
I’m told in total there was about 101 days of filming on the series. A few secret things were filmed this week. They also filmed some water sequences this week in Los Angeles on a college campus that a were saved for the very end. That probably explains a bit of the erroneous reports that filming had wrapped already.
Since this series used a lot of the same techniques as The Mandalorian, I do wonder if most of the visual effects have been completed and how long it will take to finish the series. While I’m not holding my breath for a trailer any time soon, it at least becomes possible now that filming is actually complete.
Late last week while making my Star Wars rounds, I actually pulled up next to Ewan McGregor at a stop light and had a “stop and chat” with him. I shared the story on the Making Star Wars YouTube page. It was very surreal. Make sure you subscribe to the channel and hang out with us in the chat every weekday at 1pm PST.
But it gets even weirder and I shared this next story on the YouTube show today too. I saw a car that I’m pretty sure is the same old timey Rolls Royce but this time it was being driven someone that looked a lot like Frank Oz. I’m not 100% sure it was Oz as I looked for Ewan McGregor, didn’t see him, relaxed and then had an “oh shit” moment when I figured out who I think I was seeing. But then like that it was over.
I’m theorizing that maybe some of the water stuff they filmed at the pool was for Dagobah to some extent? Maybe. Maybe not. One thing going against that was I heard they were filming stuff with ice.
Obviously take the Yoda stuff as food for thought and not and not a promise. How exciting of a time is this? My stran-cast clone Bespin Bulletin just reported that Andor wrapped around the 22nd of August. There’s three Star Wars shows that exist waiting to be seen by our peepers right now. Boba Fett, Obi-Wan and Andor are on the horizon! They just have to finish post and stick them in our eye holes now. I can’t wait.
